Teamsters help elect another ally in Sacramento
Union members earned a major victory in the 15th district of the State Assembly when Joan Buchanan became the first Democrat ever elected to this seat. Local 70 rank-and-file members donated their time and energy to help her win. Assemblymember Buchanan is to be congratulated for winning an expensive and hard fought race.
Joan realizes the difference we made and recently said, “I am grateful for all of the support I received from Teamsters Local 70 during this campaign season. Your members truly made a difference in the outcome of my race. I am working in Sacramento to create good paying jobs and am committed to putting as many Californians back to work as soon as possible. I look forward to working with Teamsters Local 70 on all of these important issues.”
Joan was raised by working class parents who taught her to be involved in your community and work to improve your neighborhood. After leaving her job at Delta Dental as Director of Commercial Operations to raise her five children, Joan began nearly 20 years of service on the San Ramon Valley School Board, including four terms as President. She successfully chaired the 1994 “No on Vouchers” campaign to protect public school funds.
Joan’s dedication and commitment to the constituents in her district are exemplary. Local 70 is fortunate to have her as a friend and ally in Sacramento.
