In 2006, Jerry McNerney made a bold and historic move by running for Congress in an attempt to unseat incumbent Republican Richard Pombo. Coming from way behind in the polls, McNerny pulled off a stunning victory. He became the only candidate in California to defeat an incumbent and the only candidate in the United States to defeat a sitting House Committee Chairman.
This was also an incredible victory for organized labor including Local 70 who backed McNerney and he has served us well. His voting record on labor issues, especially the Free Trade Pacts is exemplary.
Now he is under attack and needs our help. The Republican National Committee is still so upset over losing the District 11 Congressional seat that they have made Congressman McNerney their number 2 priority in the United States to unseat in 2008.
This is why organized labor in California has made re-electing him in June our number 1 priority. This is what makes the Political Action Program so important. The ability to deliver for a friend who is under attack while protecting a pro-labor vote is a win win situation for us all.
